The Uttarakhand government
decided to set up a Char Dham shrine board to run the affairs of the four
Himalayan shrines including 51 famous temples located in the state. The
Kedarnath MLA said that the religious sentiments of the people of the State
have been hurt by this decision. He warned that tempering with the ancient
cultural values and ethos would not be tolerated. The proposed law to oversee
temples would provide for a Hindu cabinet minister to be the chairperson of the
board in case a Muslim becomes the chief minister. However, Kedarnath MLA Manoj
Rawat said that the government is doing this because they are eyeing the
temple's donation.
